Jeany Persaud was born in Guyana, but moved to the United States in 1978.  In 1981, she joined the US Army and served 8 years in the Reserves, travelling extensively abroad and in the United States. She and her husband are parents to four children.

Persaud has a long history of volunteerism, starting with Head Start in 1991 and was appointed to that board in 2003.  She has served on many committees, including the Chancellor Parent Advisory Council (CPAC), an organization which represents parents of students in all public schools within New York City.  She served two terms as Chairperson at CPAC and three terms on the Executive Board. 

Persaud's extensive background in service also includes serving on committees for School Leadership and Community Groups and she is currently serving as Chairperson on the Board Of Trustees at Peninsula Preparatory Academy Charter School.   Since 2007, she has been on the board of Betsy Gotbaum Commission on School Governance and in 2008 became the Treasurer for New American Voters Association.  She has joined the Ronald Edmonds Education Advisory Committee for “Educating, Energizing and Empowering” the Southeast Queens Community, which is sponsored by State Senator Malcolm A. Smith.  Persaud is also the Owner of Ray’s Transport Service, Inc.
